Utah dairymen face the challenge of milk being "dumped" on the Utah market from other states. Some states have a milk marketing order that sets the minimum price they can charge their local consumers. When they fill that consumer demand with the higher priced milk, they are allowed to ship their surplus milk to Utah at prices below their marketing order levels.
While we can purchase this milk at discounted prices, generally in national chain and box stores, it has the potential to put Utah dairymen out of business. Without milk from local Utah dairies Utah consumers will eventually see much higher Utah milk prices.
